Originally I planned to go out to N Wales Jan 19 for winter climbing. But the heavy snow forecast now makes me think I'd be better taking touring skis rather than my ice sickles.
So ... I would appreciate your sound advice as to good ski touring routes in N Wales (avoiding boulder fields etc).
And I'm not up to a ski descent of Parley Fern gully, so please don't suggest that!
Thanks - Paul
Thanks Brian. Interesting proposals there.
Unfortunately it now looks like I won't be able to travel to Wales for the weekend so will have to make do with skiing on Clent hills near Birmingham, or possibly the Malverns.
Paul
you probably made a wise choice, the snow on Cadair was very wind blown, so ok along walls and gulleys but thin everywhere else, quite an 'adventurous' day out. Running shoes and carrier bags came in useful...I probably would have had better skiing nearer to home on Mam Tor-Hollins Cross.
Thanks for your comments. How it turned out:-
Saturday I completed the 1km run on Clent Hill from Four Stones at the top near the Vistor Centre down to the Hill Inn (3 choices of finish).
Sunday drove to Church Stretton. Ascended the south ridge of The Lawley on skins and, from the summit, there are several stints possible along the summit trackj before the final descent to the wood and then the return to the starting point. The whole circuit entirely on skis.
