Ski tour suggestions in Austria for February Break

HI Folks
Being a teacher, unfortunately the Eagles’ tours don’t fit with my holidays so with another Eagle, we are hoping to plan a4 day tour in Austria, principally due to ease of travel and facilities.
Would anyone have any suggestions. We’re looking to conquer many tops, a few straight forward ones would be nice though.
Also, with it being fairly early in th touring season, would many huts be open at this time?
Many thanks Eagles, for any suggestions or advice.

Hi Chris. I can give you some suggestions if you give me a couple more parameters. Where’s your intended start point (Innsbruck, Saltzburg, …?) and are you looking for something public transport accessible from there?
There certainly are huts open and I can think of a few nice ones. The ones that are easily weekend accessible from eg Innsbruck get booked up well in advance for the weekend so you would certainly want to get a booking in for then.
If I remember right, Austrian half term varies by region. So you might want to factor that in and go to an area that’s not on half term when you are.

Hi Joanne
Many thanks for replying.
Were pretty flexible where we start from. We’ll probably fly into Munich and have a car to get around.
Time wise we can do mid week.
We’ve both done a number of tours now but only looking to do something around E-S-M 1&2 …to 3 at a stretch as are most comfortable.
So pretty much were happy to go with a few good suggestions. We’ll have 3-4 days only.
Thanks again.

Here are three huts you could check out. Most are pretty good at giving route options on their websites. If you get stuck i can dig out some route options from guidebooks, albeit in German.

All of these have straight forward and pretty short approaches and are all very comfortable.

  1. Lizumerhutte

The closest to Munich, up a side valley from the Inn, in Tuxer Alps. Several days of easy tours from here. Very comfy hut with other useful bits and pieces like a transceiver practice area.

  1. Amberger hut, again off the Inn valley, in the Stubai. Website has a number of routes. Check the difficulty of them in case they’re more of a stretch.
  1. Lindauer hut in the Montafon. I love the Montafon valley… its a bit more tucked away. Medium sized ski resort and then good day tour and hut tour possibilities. Last time I looked the Lindauer was the only Montafon hut open in winter. In a great spot.
Also check out the yearbooks as there’s been at least one Montafon trip with John Eames in the last few years.

(They have a website but Discourse won’t let me paste it in!)

Enjoy!

HI Joanne

Many thanks for the information and suggestions. Much appreciated.
