Because I’ve just turned 70, and Svalbard is not in Europe, I’ve been quoted a £1300+ insurance premium by the BMC for a trip to Svalbard/Spitzbergen as a mandated separate policy on top of my existing annual European Alpine & Ski insurance through the BMC.
Can anyone recommend other travel insurers that might be cheaper?
David, I used Snowcard in 2017 and 2018. From memory the BMC insurance has a restriction on territory (Area 10??) which excludes some of the more northern parts accessible on a boat from Longyearbyen. Lovely environment. Enjoy, Alan S.
2017 12 Days £214 with Snowcard, age 59 at time.
To round things off. I got insurance through Snowcard without all the questions and rigmarole raised by the BMC – and at a quarter of the BMC’s quoted price. The issue is the age banding deployed by the various insurers!
Check out Big Cat travel insurance too
You could also try Staysure - their annual travel policy covers skiing in all its forms as far as I can understand but read the small print.
Does AAC insurance work for rescue in such remote places?
